Ozone Depletion Threatens Arctic Communities as Winters Grow Colder
Arctic ozone depletion was observed during cold winters in 1992-93 and 1994-95. Lower stratospheric ozone levels were influenced by temperature, chlorine monoxide, and the polar vortex. Calculations suggest that dynamics played a role in ozone evolution. The findings indicate chemical ozone depletion in the Arctic lower stratosphere during these cold winters.
