Loan-to-Value Restrictions Fail to Curb Household Debt Among Older Generation
Household debt in Norway has been rising, so the government put restrictions on how much people can borrow for mortgages. These restrictions didn't really reduce overall debt, but they did slow down debt growth for young people. However, older people ended up borrowing more, possibly because they're helping their kids buy homes or they're more comfortable with debt. So, the restrictions helped younger people but didn't do much to lower total debt in the country.
