New bridge withstands hurricanes, earthquakes, and ship collisions, completed 14 months early.
A new bridge was built over the Cooper River in South Carolina using a design-build approach. The bridge had to withstand ship collisions, storms, and earthquakes. It is 2.5 miles long, has eight lanes, and is the longest cable stayed bridge in the Western Hemisphere. The project was completed 14 months ahead of schedule thanks to a rigorous change-management process, technology for communication, project health indicators, and multiple forecasting scenarios.
