Frozen embryos thaw into healthy babies, revolutionizing IVF.
The study looked at thawing frozen human embryos using a fast-freezing method called vitrification. A total of 957 embryos from 219 patients were thawed and transferred into 178 patients. The survival rate of the thawed embryos was 72.2%, and 19.7% of the transfers resulted in clinical pregnancies. From these transfers, 22 healthy babies were born - 12 girls and 10 boys. Six pregnancies ended in miscarriage, and 13 were still ongoing. The researchers found that vitrification is a good way to freeze human embryos because it is effective, convenient, and cost-efficient.
