New Tower Design Boosts Safety and Strength of Cable Stayed Bridges!
The researchers studied a model of a tower on a cable-stayed bridge to understand how stress is distributed in the anchorage zone. They used a unique prestressed system and conducted tests to see how the tower behaved under different loads. The results matched well with computer simulations. They also found the load at which the tower started to crack and the maximum load it could withstand. Based on their findings, they made suggestions for improving the design of similar bridge towers.
