Urban infill to increase pollution in wetlands, threatening water quality.
The study looked at a wetland in Western Australia that is used to collect stormwater. They wanted to see how much pollution was in the water and how well the wetland could clean it. They found that most pollutants were trapped by the wetland, but phosphorus was the hardest to remove. As more buildings are constructed in the area, the amount of paved surfaces will increase, making it harder to manage pollution in the water.
