Over half of Kirulapana's waste is compostable, reducing landfill overflow.
Waste composition analysis was done in Kirulapone Division, Sri Lanka, to figure out what kind of waste is being thrown away. The researchers found that most of the waste was organic matter (like food scraps), followed by plastic, paper, and metal. They also discovered that almost 60% of the waste could be turned into compost, while nearly 30% could be recycled. This information can help improve waste management strategies in the area.
