The study aimed to reduce vehicle speeds by using pavement markings to create the illusion of narrower lanes. Researchers tested this method in New York, Mississippi, and Texas, finding that it effectively decreased vehicle speeds overall and for specific types of vehicles. The most significant speed reductions were observed on interstate and arterial roads, while local roads showed less impact. These findings will be used to recommend changes to traffic control guidelines.
