A research project at Virginia Tech is looking into using full depth concrete panels for bridge decks. The aim is to apply the findings to a bridge deck replacement project in Virginia. Different joints and construction methods are being tested on scaled models of the replacement bridge. So far, a post-tensioned joint with grout filler has shown the best performance. The goal is to offer bridge designers a fast and cost-effective option for bridge decks that maintains quality.
