The article analyzes the strategies of heavy electrical engineering companies from 1987 to 2002 using their annual reports. The researchers studied four large companies and found that each had different strategic phases on corporate and business levels. European companies had more similarities than American ones. Specific characteristics were identified for each company, and they were classified into different strategic types over time.
