Lime outperforms cement in controlling clay expansion, revolutionizing construction industry.
The study compared the effectiveness of lime and cement in stabilizing clay soil from the Guadalquivir Valley. Both lime and cement reduced the soil's plasticity, but lime was more effective with less material needed. Increasing the amount of lime or cement decreased their effectiveness. Both lime and cement improved the soil's stability. Swelling and shrinking of the soil were similar with both treatments.
