Cement boosts soil strength, reduces shrinkage, and improves stability.
The researchers studied how adding cement to clay soils can improve their properties. They compared cement and lime mixtures on 11 different soil samples. Adding 3 or 5 percent cement reduced soil plasticity and increased strength. Cement-treated soils had higher strength than lime-treated ones, especially for A-6 soils. A-6 soils treated with cement were stronger than A-7-6 soils. Overall, cement treatment improved soil properties more than lime treatment.
