Groundwater irrigation in hard rock areas of Southern India is facing challenges due to declining yields and well interference. This study shows that the benefits of irrigation are decreasing as a result. To address this issue, interventions are needed to balance water supply and demand. Public policy should focus on minimizing ecological harm while protecting the interests of the poor in these stressed areas.
