Efficient bridge deck replacement is crucial to minimize traffic disruptions. New connection systems were developed to speed up the process for both steel and concrete girders. A larger shear stud for steel girders and a debonded shear key system for concrete girders were implemented. These new systems were tested and found to be as effective as traditional methods, making deck removal faster and easier.
