Florida I-Beam girders are better than AASHTO Type III girders for building bridges. A study compared two bridges, one with each type of girder. The bridge with Florida I-Beam girders can carry more weight and costs less to build. Using a special computer program, it was found that the FIB girders can handle 20% more weight on the inside and 40% more weight on the outside compared to AASHTO girders. This means safer and cheaper bridges can be built using Florida I-Beam girders.
