Vacation trips likely to increase with improved travel conditions.
The study looked at how people in Germany choose how to travel long distances and predict how their choices might change in the future. Researchers used a model called the situational approach to understand how individuals make decisions about travel. They found that only a small number of people would switch transportation modes if travel time and costs changed. However, the reason for taking trips, like vacations, could change if travel conditions were less favorable. For other types of personal travel, people might reduce the number of trips they take in response to restrictions.
