A study looked at how adding a high-occupancy vehicle lane in the middle of a busy freeway in Houston affected traffic and safety. They checked how fast cars were going, how many cars were on the road, and how drivers reacted to narrower lanes. They also looked at accidents during construction. The results showed that with a good traffic plan, the construction didn't cause big problems for drivers.
