The study looked at how strong concrete bridge deck slabs are when carrying heavy loads. They found that the slabs are very strong due to the support from other parts of the bridge. Tests on small bridge models showed that the slabs are actually much stronger than needed, meaning they are built with more reinforcement than necessary to prevent them from breaking.
