Hanford Site Accelerates Waste Treatment, Paving Way for Safer Disposal.
Over 200 million gallons of radioactive waste at Hanford Site in Washington will be treated at the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. A facility for low-activity waste will be finished in 2014, five years before the rest. To speed up waste retrieval and treatment, they plan to start treating the waste early. The off-gas condensates from the treatment will be turned into a secondary waste form at the Hanford Effluent Treatment Facility.
