Gender wage gap widening in Sweden, glass ceiling effect reinforced.
The gender wage gap in Sweden was studied using quantile regressions. Results show that the wage gap increases at the higher end of the wage scale, suggesting a glass ceiling effect. Wage differences at the lower end of the scale are also increasing. Overall, wage inequalities are rising, especially among high and low-income individuals. Differences in pay for productivity are significant between public and private sectors. The largest unexplained gender wage gaps are found in the public sector.
