New bamboo density discovery could revolutionize sustainable construction materials industry!
The density distribution of Moso bamboo was studied using CT scanning. Internodes and nodes show different density patterns, with internodes having more uniform density along their length. The density of bamboo decreases from the outer to the inner surface of the culm wall. Nodes exhibit significant density variations due to the arrangement of vascular bundles. The proportions of vascular and ground tissues influence density differences in the radial direction, while straight vascular bundles contribute to uniform density in the longitudinal direction.
