Adding lime to wet cohesive soil can quickly improve its geotechnical properties. Just 1% of lime can create stable granules in the soil, leading to increased plastic limit, modified Proctor curve, and higher CBR index. More lime doesn't have much additional effect. Drying the soil with quick lime or natural evaporation enhances these improvements. The main reason for this is that lime hydrates bridge clayey minerals, changing their structure.
