High Bridge Rehabilitation Project Restores Historic Landmark for Future Generations.
The High Bridge over the River Trent in Staffordshire, England, was rehabilitated due to mining subsidence damage. A temporary bridge was built to divert traffic while a new bridge was constructed. The new bridge, made of steel girders and concrete, opened in June 1996. The original cast iron bridge was repaired using cold stitching. Works are ongoing to restore its masonry abutments to prevent further deterioration.
