Innovative FRP Concrete Bridges Outperform Steel in Real-World Testing.
The article discusses the construction and testing of four innovative concrete bridges in North America using non-corrosive FRP composite bars. These bridges have main girders made of steel or prestressed concrete and are supported over spans of 26.2 to 43.0 meters. The concrete deck slabs are reinforced with different types of FRP bars and steel. The bridges are monitored for temperature and strain using fibre optic sensors. Testing showed that these FRP reinforced bridges perform competitively with steel-reinforced concrete bridges under real service conditions.
