Rainfall-runoff model calibrated using local knowledge in data-scarce Mozambique.
Rainfall runoff modeling in data-scarce areas like Mozambique can be challenging. Researchers used local knowledge and fieldwork to calibrate a model of the Lumane river catchment, using data from a nearby lake's water level fluctuations and GIS data on evaporation. The model accurately mimicked the lake's water level and showed discharge data in line with historical measurements. However, evaporation estimates differed during summer.
