A bridge in Washington D.C. was fixed in 1982 by replacing over a thousand concrete panels with a special kind of concrete that sets quickly and is strong. The new concrete was used to attach steel plates to the bridge deck and fill in gaps between panels. This allowed the bridge to stay open during the day while work was done at night. The key was making sure the new concrete could get strong enough even in cold weather.
