Historic Scottish suspension bridge faces destruction despite preservation efforts.
The Gattonside suspension bridge in Scotland, built in 1826, is in danger of being destroyed during a refurbishment project. The original ironwork of the bridge is worth preserving, but plans to refurbish it may lead to the demolition of most of the intricate ironwork. Despite the bridge's historical significance, the Council's consultants are not in favor of conserving it. The author argues that the refurbishment should be designed with common knowledge and common sense in mind to preserve this important historic structure.
