USA Shifts to Cleaner, Cheaper Alternative Fuels for Future Transportation
Alternative fuels in the USA are becoming more popular due to environmental concerns. While petrol and diesel will still dominate in the 90s, laws will push for the use of alternative fuels. These fuels can reduce harmful emissions and carcinogens compared to traditional fuels. Ethanol and natural gas are safer options, while methanol is more hazardous. Alcohol will be the first choice for vehicles, with natural gas likely for larger vehicles. By 2010, more vehicles may run on electricity, hydrogen, or fuel cells. The USA will need to increase electricity generation to support these changes, with coal likely being the main source for new power stations.
