New cable-stayed bridge design in Canberra revolutionizes pedestrian crossings!
A cable-stayed pedestrian bridge was built over Isabella Drive in Canberra as an alternative to an underpass. The bridge has a 40m main span and is supported by steel towers with a concrete deck suspended by wire tendons. The design minimized the need for long approach ramps and blended well with the surroundings. The bridge's foundation is in cemented slope wash soils using blade piers. This design was chosen after considering various bridge types and cable-stayed variations, as it was cost-effective and structurally sound for the site.
