New safety planning framework to revolutionize transportation in urban areas!
Safety considerations in transportation planning for small and medium urban areas have become more important since TEA-21. However, many planners lack the training and resources for comprehensive safety programs. A framework is proposed to help planners in these areas proactively plan for safety. The paper suggests ways for planners to incorporate safety into each step of the planning process and highlights the challenges of using crash prediction models for long-range planning. It also provides examples of tools that can be used for developing long-term transportation plans.
