Reduce tillage saves energy and costs, boosts wheat crop yield.
The researchers studied different tillage methods and fertilizer doses to reduce energy costs in growing wheat. They found that using 50% conventional tillage with weedicide and interculture resulted in the highest wheat yield. Applying 100% nitrogen through inorganic fertilizer also led to high grain yields. The energy and cost of operations were lower with reduced tillage compared to conventional tillage. Overall, the benefit-cost ratio ranged from 1.08 to 1.41, showing that the methods used were effective in saving energy and reducing production costs for wheat cultivation in dryland conditions.
