The Qinghai-Xizang Plateau has a long history of human settlement and political changes. Different dynasties ruled over the region, leading to shifts in administrative boundaries. The plateau was divided into different parts under various dynasties like the Tufan, Yuan, Ming, and Qing. In 1726, the Jinsha River was established as the boundary between Xizang and neighboring provinces. The government started sending officials to govern Tibet in 1729. In 1929, Qinghai Province was officially established. Finally, the entire plateau was liberated in 1951.
