Researchers developed 87 new maize hybrids by crossing different lines and testers. They found that male lines generally had higher grain yield than female lines. The interaction between specific lines and testers had a significant impact on traits like kernel rows, kernel weight, and overall grain yield. One particular line, YPU407-20, was identified as a strong combiner among the parental lines. The hybrid YPU407-20 X CI-5 showed promising results with high grain yield and significant heterosis compared to standard checks.
