They updated their modeling system and added new tools to assess the impact of transportation projects on habitats and rare species. The analysis showed that some species are at risk due to planned developments. By increasing density around transportation corridors, growth can be focused in city centers while still meeting conservation goals. However, the best plan was not chosen by local leaders because it required changes in land use.
