The article argues that the current method of track maintenance in North America is outdated and expensive. A new approach called track renewal involves completely rehabilitating the track structure in one continuous operation using advanced European technology. This method has been adopted by 25 systems worldwide and offers economic benefits, improved track quality, enhanced worker safety, and better utilization of labor and equipment.
