Dynamic bend lighting reduces glare for opposing traffic, improving nighttime visibility.
Dynamic bend lighting is being used to improve nighttime visibility for drivers. By swivelling the headlamp beam, recognition distance for drivers is maintained while reducing glare for oncoming traffic. Simulation studies show that glare for opposing drivers is only slightly increased with swivelled headlamps. In left bends, glare levels are kept the same as on straight roads, while in right bends, glare is actually reduced. This technology is expected to receive approvals in Europe by 2003.
