Maize systems in Ghana show higher profitability than rice under high prices.
The study used a method called the Policy Analysis Matrix to look at how profitable different maize and rice production systems are in Ghana. They found that all systems contribute to the country's economy and farmers' incomes, especially when cereals prices are high. Maize systems are more profitable than rice systems, but if prices drop, rice systems could become unprofitable. To make maize more profitable, farmers could use more input technologies. For rice, improving processing methods and quality could increase profitability even with low prices. The study suggests that promoting better production technology for maize and improving processing for rice could help Ghana's agriculture sector grow and reduce poverty.
