Lime beats cement in soil stabilization, promising stronger, workable foundations!
Researchers studied the effects of adding different types of lime and cement to clay loam soil. They found that lime improved workability and strength of the soil, while cement had the opposite effect. The time between mixing and compacting had a big impact on the strength and density of cement-soil mixtures, but lime-soil mixtures were less affected. The best results were seen with a semi-hydraulic lime. Lime is shown to be a better stabilizer than cement for certain types of soil.
