Soil carbon levels in wetlands declining, impacting plant growth and biodiversity.
The study looked at how organic carbon and nitrogen levels change in different depths of soil in a reed wetland. They found that as you go deeper into the soil, the levels of organic carbon and nitrogen decrease. The amount of carbon and nitrogen in the soil is influenced by factors like temperature, moisture, and the growth of the reeds. In July, August, and October, the amount of organic carbon in the soil is closely related to the amount of nitrogen present. The ratio of carbon to nitrogen in the soil is lower when there is more nitrogen present, showing that nitrogen plays a bigger role in determining this ratio than carbon does.
