Flood-prone communities to benefit from advanced rainfall-runoff modeling
Improvements have been made to a computer model that predicts how rainfall turns into runoff in small watersheds. By using advanced radar data and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), the model now includes detailed information about the landscape and rainfall patterns. This updated model was tested in a small watershed with streamflow data and showed promising results. The goal is to refine the model further so it can be used in areas where streamflow data is not available.
