Inadequate Sediment Control Measures on Construction Sites Threaten Water Quality in North Carolina
Construction sites in North Carolina contribute to water pollution through sediment runoff. Current sediment control methods are not very effective. A study looked at the cost effectiveness of different control systems. They found that standard sedimentation basins do not trap enough sediment. Alternative approaches that combine sediment and stormwater control are more cost effective. The study suggests re-evaluating current rules for sediment basin design and implementing measures to improve sediment control.
