Desert Saltgrass Thrives in High Salt Levels, Offers Hope for Arid Lands
The scientists studied how desert saltgrass grows when exposed to different levels of salt. They used a special solution to grow the plants in a controlled environment. They found that as the salt levels increased, the plant's shoot and root lengths decreased. Surprisingly, the plant's shoot weight increased significantly at a medium salt level compared to no salt or high salt levels. The root weight was also higher at both medium and high salt levels compared to no salt.
