The Chicago economic theory has been used to study how common law works since 1960. Ronald Coase's idea of social cost led to this approach, mainly developed by Richard Posner. However, after being examined by different economic schools of thought, it was found that the Coase-Posnerian theory doesn't work well to explain or improve common law.
