The research looked at how well Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) are working in the country. They studied two MPOs in detail and looked at 16 others. The MPOs are doing a good job meeting Federal and State requirements, but they could do better at regional planning. To improve, MPOs need more local support, flexibility in their work, and more funding for broader planning tasks.
