New precast concrete bridge design reduces traffic delays and construction time.
The West Sandusky Bridge in Ohio is being replaced with a new bridge using precast concrete deck panels to speed up construction and reduce traffic disruptions. The panels are post-tensioned to prevent cracking and improve durability. A detailed analysis was done to determine the level of prestressing needed in the deck and the effects of long-term creep. The steel girders were designed to account for the additional loads from the post-tensioning.
