Bank finance barriers hinder growth for Scottish small businesses.
Some small businesses in Scotland struggle to get loans from banks. A study looked at why this happens and found that certain types of businesses, like new or rural ones, have a harder time getting funding. Bank managers mostly stick to standard rules when deciding on loans, but sometimes personal relationships play a big role. Smaller and newer businesses often face more challenges in getting loans. The study showed that businesses with strong growth, new entrepreneurs, and manufacturing companies trying to expand can have trouble getting the money they need. The research suggests that sometimes, even good business ideas are turned down for loans, leading to market failures in lending.
