Urban Policy Can Combat Rising Car Dependence in Cities Worldwide
This paper looks at how cities around the world are relying more on cars and less on public transportation and walking. The study found that this trend can be changed by policies that encourage using other modes of transportation, like buses and bikes, and by making it more expensive to own and use cars. The researchers looked at data from 46 cities in the US, Australia, Canada, Western Europe, and Asia, and found that cities can reduce their dependence on cars by planning their land use better and improving public transportation options.
