A new precast concrete deck system called NUDECK (2nd generation) was developed to make bridge construction faster and more durable. It uses full-width precast panels to speed up construction and improve deck longevity. The system also simplifies production by using covered pockets and shear connectors. The first implementation of this system was on the Kearney East Bypass project in Nebraska, where one bridge used NUDECK while the other used traditional methods. The NUDECK bridge had fewer joints, faster construction, and enhanced durability compared to the traditional bridge.
