New transport model offers solution to reduce urban sprawl impacts.
The project aimed to use travel time as a way to understand urban sprawl and reduce its negative effects on the environment and health. Researchers analyzed the South Moravian region to identify areas affected by suburbanization. They created a transport model with 3-hour peak periods to better capture changes in fast-growing suburbs. The methodology developed from this project helps evaluate projects and landscape planning to prevent traffic issues caused by urban sprawl.
