Rising CO2 levels lead to increased herbivore impact on crops.
The study looked at how rising carbon dioxide levels might affect sweetpotato whitefly populations on cotton plants. Scientists are increasing CO2 levels to help plants grow better, but this could also impact insects that feed on them. Previous research showed that insects ate more when plants were grown in high CO2 environments. The researchers wanted to see if the same was true for sweetpotato whiteflies.
